the m3 ultra changed what the m5 pro is for

since i got the m3 ultra, the m5 pro macbook has been relegated to remote control duty for my other devices while i'm on the couch.

a macbook neo could do this. the m5 pro has 48gb and the m3 ultra has 96gb.

for about a month i was running the m3 for gemma4 plus comfyui and drawthings local llms, local video and photo gen - my power bill didn't like that, and the quality really isnt up to par with nano banana, and deepseek flash. going back to my previous notes - my current use case doesn't warrant local llms. this may change - but today's not that.

then after big jobs where i used the macbook m5 pro starts thermal throttling. not even llms — simpler python and ml jobs, that made me decide to stop trying

i've been gaming on the m5 pro through crossover too. ff7 rebirth is super smooth, so i keep finding reasons not to get rid of the laptop.

oh, and i bought the mac m3 ultra before the price increase, this thing costs about PHP100k more now.
